I fully agree with a degree requirement for paramedics. For too long we have had widely variable standards for what passes as paramedic training. Because of that, we have always suffered from low performance issues. Many great paramedics find themselves lumped in with those folks who attended the minimum standards courses and still managed to pass a state exam, but never really learned about how to be an advanced paramedic. As someone who practiced many years before I acquired my Associates Degree I can say that the classes I took didn't change my practice, but they did change my understanding of how and why we do some of the more complex things we do. I truly believe it will help us perform better and also be a more respected element of the medical community.
