Specialty Certification for Flight and Critical Care Paramedics
Paramedic Excellence.

In the critical care transport environment, it is particularly important that paramedics maintain competency in the face of increasingly high patient acuities and rapidly developing technology.  Certification compels healthcare providers to stay current with unique information and skills and ensures consistency in knowledge.

The IAFCCP along with the International Board for Specialty Certification (IBSC), aka BCCTPC, are committed to specialty certification for transport professionals as a method of validating the essential knowledge and judgment required for safe and competent practice.

The IBSC's credentialing program certifies paramedics in specialty practice areas of flight and ground-based critical care, and is strongly recommended by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Services (CAMTS), 10th Edition Standards.

The IAFCCP provides information and education services to support paramedic credentialing and help prepare candidates for certification.

If you want to effect corporate, personnel and patient outcomes, we encourage you to consider certification for yourself and for your program.

Examination Content:

The FP-C and CCP-C Exams consists of 125 questions and candidates are provided 2.5 hours to complete the examination.  The certification process is focused on the knowledge level of accomplished, experienced paramedics currently associated with flight and/or critical care transport teams.  Questions on the Exam are based in sound paramedicine.

Who is eligible to take the FP-C or CCP-C Exam?

Although an active state or national paramedic license is the only technical requirement to sit for the Exams, it is recommended that candidates have at least three years experience practicing in a busy critical care/ALS system or ED.

Exam Preparation:

While course work is strongly recommended as part of an Exam preparation strategy, there is no single course that teaches to the Exam.  Candidates are expected to maintain a significant knowledge of current ACLS, PALS, NALS, and ITLS/PHTLS standards.  The Exam is not meant to test entry-level knowledge.   For a detailed content outline of each Exam, download the Candidate Handbook available on the IBSC website at
